Drunken Groundhog Punch - OR - Dude, Where's My Shadow?

Groundhog's Day.  Imbolc.  The traditional Celtic calendar point for the beginning of spring.  Having now survived three winters in the frozen Upper Midwest, I'm beginning to take these seasonal changes a little personally.  So while Punxsutawney Phil might seem a quaint winter tradition to some, here in the land of cabin fever, I'm feeling very invested in the outcome of his annual jaunt out into the daylight.

So if you're like me and you've had enough of winter, take heart, I've developed a concotion to help take our minds off the subzero temperatures outside.  Can be mixed for a crowd or just a couple, it's perfect for sipping in front of the fire.  Warning: despite the light taste and aromatic notes reminiscent of exotic spices from tropical regions, it packs a bit of a 'punch' so tread lightly with this one.  Better yet, feed it to your groundhog and maybe he'll be too hungover to see that shadow...

Drunken Groundhog Punch

2 parts Zaya rum
1.5 parts coconut infused rum
3 parts black tea
1 part simple syrup
.5 part fresh lemon sour
1 part fresh lime juice
1-2 dashes Jerry Thomas bitters

Blend all ingredients except bitters in a large jar.  For best results, refrigerate overnight.  Serve over ice with dash of bitters on top.

Here's hoping for an early spring!  Cheers from the Bar Fly!
